I've been told that the plant that [livejournal.com profile] kendermouse and [livejournal.com profile] scottish_neko gave us is actually a peace lilly, so we've been trying to give it some peace and quiet. But I'm worried that George is doing poorly. Do you think we should give him some more water?

Joke! It's a joke! Please don't hurt me! George is a bit droopy and we're still trying to find the place he's happiest (Brisbane can be a demanding climate for house plants.) but he's not that far gone. yet

I think he needs to go out the back again. Or maybe inside near (but not too near) a window? George is getting way too much sun!

you realize that Neko is SO gonna hurt you for that. ::grin::

it wasn't SUPPOSE to be a Peace Lily, but that's ok. Lady says that if it gets droopy, it needs more water. Apparently, Peace Lilies are real drama queens when they need water. ::Grin::

Enjoy
the kendermouse

We dropped a kettle on it. I didn't want to but Ristin insisted. I think he's perking up a bit and we should have just let him stay where he was.

You could *try* watering it (I still see SOME green there) but you could also try putting a live plant in the pot - that might work better actually. :-)

I have no idea how to treat different kinds of plants, but he *looks* like he needs more water to me. It might be worth checking Google to see how much water/sunlight/... he needs and then adjust his, well, diet accordingly.

Test the soil. Work your finger down an inch and see if it's still moist. If so, water is the last thing George needs. I think spider plants like shade. If George is in a sunny spot, remove him immediately. But him in an area where he can get a few hours of sun, but will receive mostly shade.

Be glad you both live on a different continent.

... After inhaling half the room in a stunned gasp and trying to figure out how you could have wrecked that much damage so quickly... I scrolled down to the text below.

If either of you were within two hours, I'd come and slap you with my shoe! Yes, this is a slapping offense in my book.

geeze.

they sent you a peace lily? So not what I asked for... I have no idea how to care for a peace lily, I killed mine over a three month period.

Sorry and good luck.

Um... guys... Peace Lilly plants are INDOOR plants... if you leave them out in the sun, they will die. I keep several of these plants, both in my kitchen and in my tarantula enclosures. The key to success with them is to place them in a spot where filtered sunlight touches them (not direct blazing sunlight) and keep the soil (don't get the leaves wet) slightly moist (not drowned).

Swift rat is right.
he is getting to much "direct sun"
IE they still need light just not direct light.
And all you have to do is put your finger in the soil.
If it is moist don't water.
If it is dry. water :)

Simple :)

I feel sorry for ristin since he is the house pet!!!

From what I can tell from the picture is that the leaves are shriveling up due to lack of water. When a plant starts wilting that's an immediate sign it needs more water. I can't really tell but it seems that the soil looks dry in that pic, unless you put lots of peat moss on top to keep the soil moist? Anyway water George more, and keep him in a not too light place, peace lily plants like shady spots. This is how George should look: http://irvingflowersgifts.com/pelipl.html
