I just found out that a very dear friend's dog has passed away. I've known him for more years than I can keep track of and he's helped me through some tough times. [livejournal.com profile] ristin reminded me of the story of the rainbow bridge, where loved pets wait for their owners to come for them and live together in the afterlife. God speed, Benny. I'll miss you too.

It's always such a sad time when a beloved pet dies. So sorry for you, Marko, and for your friend's loss.

*sigh* It's never, ever easy.. I still deeply miss Tarka, our golden retriever, twelve years after his time came. But, it's not difficult to counter that dark time with the years of fun we had together, from first giving him a home ("free to a good home", no less! Pedigree, too, not that it mattered, complete with lineage of his past six generations. We very nearly weren't his family, as there was someone else in line in front of us, so to speak, but something wasn't suitable with them, so we got a call back..), through taking him for hours long walks around the hills above the village, not to mention waiting for him to return after he'd run off. *grin* (Thankfully, he stopped that a few months after he came to us. We'd always go out looking, but obviously, there's only so much ground a few people can cover. He'd normally run into the fields, often having done plenty of rolling around, smelling to high heaven.. mercifully, none of the farmers were trigger-happy)

No question - if I can get myself into a situation where my company and project are safe from collapse, so I don't have to move around, I'd love to have another dog. Something large, again, like a retriever, or maybe a samoyed. (Floofy!)

Do you have any four legged companions in the house, or thoughts in that direction?

Rats but they die so young and break your heart. Ristin seems to have an affinity for cats.

Ah. Then Ristin would like to meet the Herd, I'm sure. They would probably like him, too, as cats can sense catlovers.

Also, my cats are all indoors and therefore do not hunt anything other than bouncy toys and food. So no dead birds or rats or mice here!
