I suppose in the interests of fair play I need to acknowledge this. Not being able to inherit your partner's superannuation was to my mind the major legal reason why gays need their relationships acknowledged. At least I'll know ristin will be looked after, should the worst happen. It's a common political strategy to throw the offended group a bone to defuse criticism, but I have the satisfaction of knowing this will outrage the (mis-named) Australian Family Association. I don't know what the legal situation is in America, but I can't see George W. Bush passing legislation like this.
