Bo was put down today. He somehow got his muzzle caught in the cage bars overnight and that, combined with his myco, was too much for him. After we freed him we washed him and I cradled him this morning, wrapped in my favourite towel, until he settled down. Ristin took him to work so he could keep an eye on him but he wasn't getting better. We couldn't let him suffer and he wasn't really aware of his surroundings or eating anymore. The vet said he wasn't going to recover and recommended we put him down. He's gone now; not even a body left to mourn over.

It's funny, I haven't really felt it much as of yet. I cried a little, while talking to Ristin on the phone, but mostly I've just felt numb.

I'll miss you, Bo.

Did the vets let you take him back so you could give him a garden burial? Myco is a terrible ailment, unfortunately it's very common in the pet rat scene and not much can be done once it's set in. :<

My old girl rat is starting to get old and has a tumor on her side. It sucks how such a wonderful little animal cops so much crap from health problems.

I'm terribly sorry, my friend. I hope the tears come soon. I never cried harder for any person than I did for the two pet rats I lost when I was a young man. At least you did what you could for Bo. That was my only consolation, too. Back then, my rats were the only real companionship I had. At least you have your mate to comfort you. I'm sure he understands and shares your pain. Take heart in that...

I'm so sorry Marko. I figured that was coming soon, with the problems the poor little guy has had, but it stings none the less, no matter how much one might try to 'be prepared'.

I don't think my little guy will last much longer. He's taken to sleeping even through most of the night, and squeaks a lot when he's pet, though he's still eating and moving around alright. It's hard that such wonderful little animals have such short lifespans. *sighs*
