From the other side of the road, I saw a stall for the Socialist Alliance who are running candidates in the upcoming federal election. One wonders why they bother, really. I admit I did flirt with the hard left when I was young (hardly surprising, seeing as both my parents were active members of the Communist Party in Finland) but I've never taken them seriously. They have practically no electoral appeal and will make no impact on the election at all. So why am I telling you this? It amuses me that they bother running candidates at all. And that I'm not some frothing, unreasoning Leftie.

And in related news, Parliament passes a ban on gay marriage. Only the Greens and the Democrats voted against it. Is it any wonder they are the only major parties I'm willing to vote for? Of course it's not just on this issue; we see alike on a lot of things (I used to be a member of the Australian Democrats) but it's a good emotive hook to focus on.
